What Missile Crisis?

Kennedy was smarter and had better advisors.

I'm so old , I distinctly remember the Cuban Missile Crisis.  My parents were very upset, my mother praying like it was the end of the world, the television tuned up to watch and listen to President Kennedy addressing the Nation, warning Khrushchev to stop banging his shoes on the podium, and so on.  (The shoe incident wasn't part of it - just added that in for fun.  What?)  At the time, we were closer to nuclear war than anyone could imagine.  It was a big, big deal.  A serious crisis.

What's going on with North Korea?

So we are prepared for war, we have a fleet of ships over there, Pence visited the DMZ - is it real? There are growing threats of nuclear war, and life goes on.  Trump doesn't address the nation, and someone is watching Dancing With the Stars instead.

While the big news locally is the anniversary of Prince's death and the investigation into his addiction to prescription drugs.  They keep talking about it as if it was an addiction that happened accidentally.  Like it's somehow different from recreational drug use.  Maybe it started out because of over-prescribed pain medication, but like Michael Jackson's dependency, maybe that kind of blame-shift is really denial?  Clinical denial.

I think we all must be in some sort of denial - drug induced, or not.

  1. Yes Terry I remember it well too. I was in the Sixth grade. We did drills. Under the desk, in the hallway where there were no windows. Bomb shelter sign where put up on public buildings. We all prayed like never before. The opposite of today. What to believe, who to believe? Tonight on the news the "armada Trump says was speeding to the South China Sea actually went to Australia for maneuvers. Not exactly a crisis response. I do not feel comfortable with Trump in Mar a Logo and golfing at his club when we are supposition on the brink of nuclear war. I bet fewer prayers are being said now then in 1962. Denial, ignorance, boredom? I do not know. OLF warned us this would come but prayer could reverse it. She is credited by some with resolving the Cuban crisis without war. Will she do it again? We will see sooner or later.

    2. "I do not feel comfortable with Trump in Mar a Logo and golfing at his club when we are supposition on the brink of nuclear war."

I never felt comfortable while obama played golf and acted as if he could do no wrong and yet was busy lobbying bombs at the pro-life movement by stocking planned parenthood with arsenal so as to kill more babies, oppressing the Little Sisters of the Poor by trying to bomb them into submission, seeking to annihilate religious freedoms by slowly stripping away religious choice and/or freedom to object on moral grounds ... I could go on but I will leave it to Trump and his people to slowly clear the minefields obama left behind.

  2. "Lobbyin bombs", "stocking planned parenthood with arsenal"? You have been a vigilant editor to me so I cannot resist to pointing these out. I did not know bombs had lobbies or PP had an arsenal. Anyway all three issues are Supreme Court issues. So, I suggest you take it up with them. In the meantime, we may all be annihalated with this President feeds us false info. "I will never tell what I will do." Calls Putin 5 hrs before bombing an empty airbase. "I am sending an armada to N. Korea." One ship goes to Ausrtalia. I am sorry Yaya but Trump is way out of his depth. Please up the prayers to St Joseph for him because he needs them. As he, family and friends get richer we will all get poorer. He has shown us with 17 golf games and repeated trips to Mar a Logo that he is not willing to devote much time or thought to this difficult job.

Nah ... I have since retired from that.

I decided since like you say "we may all be annihilated with this President" I want to take time out and smell the roses, gaze upon the deep blue skies, and last but not least, commend each and every one of us to the glorious Saint Joseph.

May he be our refuge in this hour and guide us safely into the arms of Jesus and Mary. Amen!

    2. Yaya do not lose your wonderful sense of humor. As for Trump and his cabal I have added St Jude and St Rita to St Joseph to influence and guide him. My NYS attorney general meanwhile is actively pursuing RICO offenses against him, family, friends and business associates. Those are racketeering charges that Trump has no power to pardon. We have lived with Trump in NYS for over40 years in the public eye. It was NYS who finally investigated his Foundation which did no charity work, settled for 25 million the Trump University scam, and won conviction against the Alfa Bank (Russian) that operates in conjunction with Trump Organizationand organized crime. We have seen the Donald and family at close range for a long time. It is not pretty. National news is not reporting this very much. Indictments will soon be coming at this level for associates, possibly family too. I am concerned that he could lose it when that happens.
As for sparing small animals on the road I will caution you as I do my family. Never swerve to avoid an animal on the road. More people die that way. We had a local girl a few years back die and her passenger lose an arm doing just that. It is instinctive to try and avoid but life threatening to the driver. Peace always.

  3. yes I think we ( well, me and the very few friends I have, including the bunnies & cats) Are in denial....there is a certain numbing going on. A diabolical confusion, as it were: what is serious is discounted: what is personal to another, is seemingly significant to many strangers.
Are we living our own lives, in the moment, as it is the only moment given to us by Jesus ? Are we aware, truly, at each of those moments our true friends, our true companions....(again....not thinking only of the cats and bunnies...). I'll join you Yaya...in seeing the buds breaking out here in the East, and listening to the birds, and being grateful to God for His grace in making me a 'little one'.
How many, many decades it has taken for me to comprehend my insignificance: and to not be troubled by my many past and ongoing failures.
    Happy Easter everyone !
btw: saw many, many rabbits on my midnight stroll. smelled a skunk. think I sighted an opossum. All in a very congested area of a semi-small town.

    1. Amen, dear consolata.

I used to enjoy my late night walks around the neighborhood too. I was treated to the songs of the beautiful little birds here in Southern California. When I would hear them start to sing I smiled since I knew that in their littleness, they were singing God's praises. He must delight in such preciousness.

      I sure do. ^^

p.s. I almost ran over a skunk one rainy night while on my way to work. He/she darted onto the road out of nowhere but I was quick to see the smelly creature and avoided smashing it. Gracias a Dios! ^^)

  4. ....my grandmother, in Minnesota, knew all the birds of the region: by song, first, then by sight. I remember, as a child, her telling me of them, but of course I could not remember. Had we not moved to the East...I think of all the knowledge she could have passed on to me !
She made her own butter in a small room....and was green with envy when her rich neighbor could affort Margarine ! Her treat for me was to make Milk Toast, a salve for my, even then, 'nervousness': toast bread: butter well, and salt well: put in shallow bowl: cover with warmed milk, to which is also added....Butter, of course ! yuummmm......Butter Makes Everything Better.

    2. You know what's better than butter or margarine? The rare chance to do this ...

    4. Margarine was sold white, with food coloring to mix in, due to the dairy lobhy. Grandpa bootlegged it by the case from a state that allowed it to be sold yellow in color.

    5. Nan ! So interesting - sort of like....bathtub gin, huh ? I'd go for butter over margarine or gin, even....
for some reason, I forget: it became very desirable over butter: marketing ?

    6. @ consolata ... after watching that video I thought that raising a baby hummingbird is like raising a baby. Much love, patience and feeding is required. If I had the time, funds and wherewithal, I would volunteer to help at some hummingbird rescue home. Not sure where they are but I could handle being loved by them. <3

  5. Sorry Terry you presented a serious topic and this is where it ended up. I quess your point is made nonetheless less. Few are paying attention and fewer care.

  6. Well, the old Kennedy compound was not far from Mar-a-lago (it really annoys the hell out of me that Trump is there...you can't drive down Ocean Avenue and google at all the mansions unrestricted anymore...) and he had a bomb shelter on Peanut Island which still stands today...you can tour it and its pretty cool....so maybe he is okay with being a short boat ride while we all fry. Peanut Island is not exactly the most luxurious place to spend weeks on end (I can't imagine Jackie going to the bathroom there.) but its better then glowing I guess.

I dont trust Trump but I do trust the generals in charge...North Korea is not suicidal...and I think their missiles only reach to Hawaii so if that is any comfort.
