Archdiocese confirms homosexual parish council member
The 26-year-old who lives in a registered homosexual partnership, may now belong to a parish council in the Weinviertel [region].The Archdiocese of Vienna confirmed on Friday the election of a 26-year-old homosexual council member in the Mayrhofen municipality of the Weinviertel [region, north of Vienna]. The case had triggered a heated debate. Florian Stangl, who lives in a registered partnership, had been elected in mid-March, and, although chosen by a large majority of the population,had been rejected by the local priest because of his way of life. The diocese has specifically approved the first such case. Cardinal Christoph Schönborn also met Stangl and his partner.

A lot of people think Randy Engel is nuts but more and more I think her conceptualization of what she refers to as the "homosexual colonization of the Church" is for real. Statements like this can't happen unless there is an army of priests and Bishops who share his views. Anyone who thinks Satan's pursuit of priests is pious hyperbole one has to read this story or read any Catholic blog. A day does not go by without another priest spitting in the face of Christ.

ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. Father Hardon was correct. Ordinary Catholics will not survive these present times. Unfortunately, the situation is such that "ordinary" Catholics make up the great majority.
It's refreshing that you don't have your head in the sand or simply look the other way and trust they (the bishops) must know what their doing.
Wasn't it Bishop Sheen who said words to the effect that only the laity can save the Church?
The Church is beginning her own passion and crucifixion.
My pastor mentioned this morning that there is rumour of the Holy Father's resignation. I pray for all our sake that this is simply that a rumour. His chilling quote at the beginning of his pontificate is all to ominous, ""Pray for me that I may not flee for fear of the wolves."
He looked weary this morning as I watched him during the Palm Sunday procession before Mass in St Peter's. I'm certain that the trip to Mexico and Cuba took a lot out of him.

ReplyDeleteThe Holy Father won't resign, no matter how much stuff like this beats him down. The rumor of his resignation doesn't concern me. However, he's not young anymore,so I'm certain it's harder and harder for him to do what he must do. His burden is heavy and would be heavy for a man half his age.

I'm not putting my head in the sand and assuming the bishops know what they are doing, but why do the laity think that a situation where the laity automatically look upon everything bishops and cardinals, even the pope for some) say and do as suspect is not EXACTLY what Satan wants as well?
I admit that there are so many that cannot be trusted, but unfortunately this also has the effect of sowing division among Catholics who ARE orthodox and who ARE faithful - little disagreements over theology become a hunt for heretics and a labeling of good people as "liberals", and yes, I will admit, labeling of others as closet sedevacantists (by myself). (and anyone who imagines there was ever theological unity is insane). Anything one finds disagreeable is automatically outside the pale (in the case listed here, obviously this stuff is so far beyond Catholic teaching it's not even on the radar).
But that was Mark Shea's point the other day - REAL and legitimate fear has caused Catholics to view each other in camps and view each other with suspicion.
And a time where many bishops and cardinals, even a majority of them, were NOT bought and paid for by the Zeitgeist is not unique. Why did only one bishop side with the Church when England went into schism? How many heresies swallowed whole diocese in the ancient world? How many bishops were fat, happy, men of the world? The position of cardinal almost seems designed to have been a high position given to the sons of kings and other princes.
As far as the holy father resigning, I hate rumors. But the man will not live forever. We should pray for Him and His successor, but so far the Lord has given us excellent and holy leaders through this long crisis - we should trust Him, too. Just imagine the damage done if it hadn't been for John Paul II or Benedict XVI (the ones I remember), and even good Pope Paul VI, so hated and despised among some.
The illustrious Cardinal from some noble house in Austria has been shaky for years- this should come as no great surprise. It only is because he was the general editor of the Catechism of the Catholic Church that those of us who try to be orthodox are scandalized by his weak witness to the Faith and in this case a counter witness- but remember Cd. Ratzinger-now Pope Benedict and JPII ultimately were in charge. Once he became a bishop he started to back off some things-in fact at one point both Pope Benedict and Pope JPII had to call him and the other Austrian bishops to the Vatican for a meeting concerning the liberal nonsense that goes on from top to bottom in the Austrian Church, e.g. divorced and remarried people, without an annulment, receiving Holy Communion, rebellion on all levels concerning the Church's teaching on sexual morality, etc. He is not all bad- considering the insane Church he is dealing with- BUT he is not doing a whole lot to change things and now this pastor is thrown under the bus concerning the parish council. It strikes me as a lack of the gift of fortitude which Fr. Reginald Garrigou La-Grange says is so key to being a good shepherd in his great book the Priest in Union with Christ.

ReplyDeleteIt's weird to think that in the topsy-turvy world that is the Church in the German-speaking world, Cardinal Schönborn is considered an arch-conservative.
The scandal of the American Church is nothing compared to what happens in your average Austrian or German parish. And that's not meant to play down any real abuses here, just calling attention to a fact.
To think that some still consider him papabile and a candidate to head the CDF after +Levada.

Here's an updated post by Rorate. I need a translation of the translation. There is so much patronizing in the statement that I can't tell if the guy is being allowed on the parish council or is being told very nicely that he cannot serve. I think it's the former.

Not to add salt to our wounds, if you check our Bishop Gomez, he had high praise for the Religious Ed Conference in LA. I have been singing that song "Another One Bites the Dust" all day.
ReplyDeleteYou know I remember in the late 1970s when I voiced my interest in a priestly vocation to my pastor the first response was: well, there aren't a lot of good seminaries. Let me contact THIS bishop or THAT bishop etc or THIS priest or THAT priest known for their orthodoxy.
