A Bully Old Chap.

About that bully post - get it?  Bully-post?
.
Anyway, that post really got to some people, didn't it.  Not a question.
.
However, the comments and reactions are amazing.  I am always, continually, repeatedly, incessantly surprised at how little we all know ourselves.  Astonished really - how we even know our own names is  incredible.
.
We are all bullies - well most of us are - at one time or another.  We all bully and badger and taunt our neighbors every day as we insist on our own way or try to persuade those who disagree with us that we are right and they are wrong.  As bloggers we rant about our favorite issues all of the time - the blog can become a bully pulpit.  I can name several bloggers who taunt and sling barbs nearly every day.  Comboxes are the worst on many blogs.  Of course we all object, "I'm not being a bully!"  And then turn around and bash some politician we don't like, or some bishop or priest we think is unorthodox, or some guy we think is an X-man.  Think about it - it's a bar fight most of the time.
.
Yes, yes - it's all right though - because we say we're praying for the other, or we are evangelizing.  Not every one is like that of course - not the really good bloggers - just the mean ones.

  1. Is there a difference between making negative comments about someone's behavior and bullying?
If I use my blog to complain that my husband is being bullied at the church where he works, am I then bullying the bullies?

At least my blog is exempt from combox bullying. I don't have to take my shoes off to count how many posts of mine have more than one comment! Maybe I should post about Medjugorje, generate some traffic.

  2. Most Catholic blogs are bully pulpits that have been covered in incense. And the vitriol and pure hate fueling them is all okay, because it righteous indignation ad majorem dei gloriam and all that, you know.

I don't think this blog is that way. But to keep you humble, I will say that I am occasionally afraid you'll take my lunch money.

  4. See Ace - you really do get it. LOL!

Seriously folks - I'm the bully and I feel bullied whenever anyone disagrees with me. Or do I?

I don't know how to make sense of this subject anymore.

  5. Jane - you should post on medj - they are saying JPII really, really believed in it. Ask the question, if he did - what does it mean for those who say it is of the devil? And then sit back and watch. LOL!

  10. Are we all friends again or what? Cos I've got a job interview tomorrow and need clothes advice! 'Smart casual' is the term used, in the description of dress requirements, woteva that is, these days?

Oh no! the word verification is 'diabl'

    Is it a sign?

Just incase the fight's still on, let me say here and now, I disagree, with everybody and everything!!!!

Down with it all, whatever it is and however old it is!

    ;)

  11. Shadowlands--I don't know what it means across the pond, but my work environment in the US is "smart casual." Meaning dress slacks for ladies, nice flat shoes or a bit of a heel (what I would call "sister sensible" ), button-type shirt shirt or polo-type shirt, short sleeves or long sleeves--not a fussy blouse but not a tshirt either, a twin set is nice if it is chilly, conservative jewelry, conservative makeup, conservative hairstyle, Long hair pulled back in a tie or ribbon but not "put up" in a bun librarian style :) conservative nail polish. Depending on the work environment you MIGHT want to consider a nice bit below the knee skirt, but then you have to pay attention to sitting right, kind of stressful in a interview. A dress is probably too much.

Good luck on your interview!! I'll be praying for you!!

  12. Shadowlands--that dress code is for women...if you're a guy then the rules are different. :)

Sorry--I should have clarified that :)
