In the meantime ...
In the wake of the terror attack in Nice, news of torture, dismemberment and mutilation of the victims at the Bataclan in the Paris attack surfaced - although subsequently debunked. Nevertheless, the very thought of such torture, which we know has happened to other ISIS victims, is shocking to me. The hatred and contempt for human life demonstrated by such violence is truly diabolic.
I keep praying for the victims - today's, yesterday's and tomorrow's.
As Christians - as Catholics - we know what is happening, and why.
We also know the remedy...

DeleteI live in and pastor two parishes in Baton Rouge. At this point 6 policemen have been shot. 3 are dead, 2 are in critical condition, and 1 is reportedly in stable condition. Please pray for them, and for peace.

DeleteI was out of town when it happened, but I'm driving back up there today. My heart is heavy, and I don't know what's next. I'm going to keep praying the rosary.

We're offering Mass Tuesday evening for Officer Matt Gerald and the other officers who were murdered, followed by Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Benediction. Matt grew up in this parish, and his mother is still very active here. In fact, she was lector for the Vigil Mass this past Saturday. It'seems still hard to believe that less than 24 hours later I would be praying with her, Matt's widow, and their two little girls after the ambush and assassination of their son, husband, and father. May he and the other dead rest in peace and rise in glory.
