I think the Holy Father should consider travel alternatives for his trip to Brazil - maybe use some sort of flotation device to make the crossing. Flying may be a bit grand.

DeleteSo, how long before this celebrity, rock star priest is caught in some sort of scandal? Then the only question will be whether he becomes Episcopalian and goes on the talk show circuit.
ReplyDeleteThere is something about him which reminds me more of former Dominican priest, Francis MacNutt who was active in the charismatic movement and got married. The Fr. Cutie thing crossed my mind as well, but Rossi is a bit more mature I think.

DeleteHmm...I somehow doubt this is a solid strategy for the Church's longterm success. And seriously, he thinks the liturgy is just like it was in the fourth century?? I wish him luck, of course.
Very sad indeed. When I look at his photo op there is definitely one thing that does not come to mind....humility, without which there can be no holiness. Catching souls...hmm, not too likely however chances are pretty good he might catch a few flies.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. I'm very put off by the whole "Woodstock" WYD...Pope as celebrity-star show on the road on stage happening.... It's all very NOT in the spirit of St Francis. Why not have a Youth Pilgrimage to Rome? Not to mention the lack of Christian modesty and consecrated hosts found on the ground at previous such events. I was REALLY put off that the Liturgies were changed from Latin to Portuguese just recently.

I'm kind of with you on the going to Rome thing rather than flying around the world. I think the papal trips get to be a bit much. I wouldn't hold my breath for Latin from this Pope.
DeleteI mean Rome is our home as Catholics.....it's traditionally been the focus of Catholic pilgrimage. A big part of our loss of identity as Catholics lies in the reality that we no longer have an authentic romanità a Roman character or quality. I just don't get the whole competing for the hearts of youth with worldly entertainers by stooping to their level almost.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm not holding my breath for Latin from this pope however any reading of Sacrosanctum Concilium will tell us in this era of "Vatican II as Super dogma" in Cardinal Ratzinger's own words one would expect ". . .the use of the Latin language is to be preserved in the Latin rites." I mean if we are going to gung ho on following Vatican II...........
