The end of an era... Corapi's ego explodes.
The last post... still schlepping.
.
Like Charlie Sheen, Corapi is all about the money. On his last entry, he continues to offer his material at 50% off - for a limited time only and then: "After that, there will be no further chance to acquire the audio and video material that marked that era." Era? Holy crap. Get yourselves a Donate button all ye holier than thous - how true the old passage from 1 Tim. 6, 6: "there is great gain in religion!"
.
For twenty years I tried to impart the Catholic and Christian Faith through preaching and teaching the Word of God as a Catholic priest. That era of my life is sadly ended, but rather than lie down and die, I have made a decision to continue doing what I can to inspire, teach, and give hope to the people living in a time in history much in need of it.
.
...unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat...
.
An interesting anecdote:
.
“Corapi said that a long time ago he decided not to let himself get backed into a corner where the church could manipulate him with threats like denying him a pension or a home or an assignment. He worried that it would be a real test of faith for him if the church asked him to go live in a monastery and give up his worldly goods. ‘Hopefully, I would do it,” he said years later, with an inflection in his voice suggesting that he might not. When pressed, however, he conceded that he had superiors like everyone else and if they said, ‘You’re finished,’ he’d be finished. But when really pushed about what he would do if ordered to turn over his assets, he said he had concluded that because of his status – somewhere between a member of a religious order and a parish priest – canon law was ambiguous on this question.” - A revealing quote from a 2007 book
.
Yes, yes. I pray for him, but I can still call an ass an ass.
.
That's all.
I'll leave a comment, although there's not much to say since Corapi isn't a homo.

Terry,
ReplyDeleteI know everybody is about sick of all this, but that 2007 book "Coronary" gives a lot of insight into what happened to Corapi over time- it even has info about the Tamra girl he has filled the lawsuit against who made the charges against him in March- she was his busness manager- not simply an employee at Santa Cruz media. More and more it seems like he truly went back to the old man- as you said in the post yesterday. In the book what he was involved in in Las Vegas and California- pre-conversion- is almost identical to the charges made by SOLT the other week. His old college buddy Joseph Zerga also factors in to everything both pre-conversion and post-conversion Corapi; I just wonder why he didn't get new friends post-conversion. Corapi started charging between $2,500 and $3,500 an appearance early on, and it seems from what the book says that the founder of SOLT was recruting students at his seminary Holy Apostles and seemed to give Corapi a ticket to do what he wanted from day one, even though the founder barely knew him. Also interesting was an article from the San Francisco Chronicle from 2002 in the footnotes of the Corapi Wikipedia entry, and it said in there he rarely wore his priestly collar except when giving talks, even back in 2002; instead choosing to wear suits. Wow I guess, the troubling signs were there for a long time! How we need to pray for everyone involved. This is why St. Paul says in Phillipans 2 "to work out one's salvation in fear and trembling" and to heed what St. Peter says to be on guard against the devil who is like a roaring lion on the prowl for souls!
Also- and it is in this same book- he bought Tamra a house in CA and she traveled with him everywhere- at least all the places he traveled that were mentioned in the book. It reminds me of a priest in my hometown who traveled everywhere with his cook/housekeeper and it turns out she had been his mistress for 40 years and few even blinked an eye becuase it was an adult woman, he was "orthodox" and let's be honest our society is corrupt in the sexual realm, and so we turn a blind eye to so many things. Maybe that's why our Lady of Fatima said to Lucia that more souls go to Hell for sins against the 6th commandment than for any other reason. What a battle it is to live a holy life, esp. in the area of purity, and maybe that's why as you quote it on your homepage, St. John of the Cross says most of the human race will be lost. Let's hope not, by God's mercy!!!
ReplyDeleteTerry,
ReplyDeleteI'm a long time lurker/reader, but this Corapi mess is making me crazy. All the idiots, and yes I am using that word intentionally that have placed their faith in the mere man that is John Corapi, instead of the Perfect Man that is Christ, and are at his website drinking the koolaid are making me just nuts. What is wrong with these pepole. Corapi is so lost right now. I appreciate sane commentary. I think using the "ass" word to describe him is kind. I'm partial to ConArtist.
I do enjoy reading your blog and recently made a pilgrimage up to the IKEA store in MN. Managed to go to St. Agnes for mass too. I could have spent the day driving up and down Summit Ave ogling all the beautiful homes.
One more thing, over at Fr. Z's blog, he's got an add up for the Courage Confernce in August. I think that's a good thing.
Thanks for the interesting work. I appreciate it.
Teresa
This is what Corapi's accuser has to say about him:

Ego is right! End of an era? PLEASE. The fall of Rome marked the end of an era. The Great Schism marked the end of an era. This is just the end of any pretense at peddling Catholicism.
ReplyDeleteTalk about megalomania. Oy!!
Teresa, you drove up and down Summit without noticing the beautiful Cathedral at the one end or the beautiful and full seminary at the other?
ReplyDeleteYour quote about the grain of wheat reminds me of my husbands 1st reaction to "lay down and die." He remarked, "Isn't that what Christ did?"
