This little guy lives in my yard - I've never, ever seen a gopher quite like this before - he almost looks like a wild gerbil... I've heard him speak too. He has a really high, squeaky voice, and seems to be quite intelligent, once I heard him reciting
Shakespeare - something from Midsummer's Night I think. He never comes very close however, I suppose he is afraid of being taken into captivity, or killed...
Those gophers, "ground squirrels", whatever, are really something!
ReplyDeleteWe have some very tame ones at our Oratory...they get very close, which astounds me.
We even had an "albino" gopher last year (haven't seen him yet this year)...
And now we have baby skunks across the road in the cemetery...it'll be an interesting summer!

ReplyDeleteInteresting! Is he a friend of Mrs. R as well? You three should have a tea party or something. =)
Enbrethiliel:
ReplyDeleteTea party? Great!
Like something out of "Alice in Wonderland", no?:<)!

ReplyDeleteOh, indeed! =D And I think "Terry in His Garden" could give Lewis Carroll's books a real run for their money!
Hey, if a "tea party" in Terry's garden happens, I wanna be invited:<)! I'll get special permission...I'll even bake the scones and get good Irish tea!!
ReplyDeleteThat really is an odd looking gopher, Terry. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was Toby!
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, be careful with those little guys. They've been known to maul unsuspecting onlookers who think they're harmless.
Tom in Vegas: Ah, their little teeth will do ya in! But don't be scared...just a prayer and the sign of the Cross will scare them away!
ReplyDeleteDidn't I see him on Caddy Shack?

Midsummer's Night? are you sure it wasn't Taming of the Shrew?
