Will contemporary Americans know how to cope with poverty and homelessness?.
We have been in a war for almost 8 years now, and most Americans hardly notice.
.
We were duped by greedy banks and
realtors to buy houses much too big for our incomes.
.
We maxed out our credit cards and took out all sorts of loans for everything from vacations to student loans.
.
We hardly noticed while politicians and financial wizards picked our pockets.
.
Now I wonder if we will notice as it is all taken away?
.
What's in your wallet?
Christ is waiting for us in any given chapel in America on any given day and how many notice?
ReplyDeleteWe are all too busy gazing at ourselves in the mirrors of our own vanity.
Good post. There's enough culpability to go around. Sure, there were bankers and loaners dangling dollar bills over our heads, but where did people get the idea that they had to be able to live the AMERICAN DREAM even as they knew it would have to be charged?
ReplyDeleteWe reap what we sow.
ReplyDeleteThe question that comes to my mind is this: Are Americans ready to downsize, move in with family members, take family in that needs it?
ReplyDeleteAs my own parents are struggling, I am contemplating moving in with them to help them pay the mortgate (I rent anyway, would rather support them as landlords!) and I am now 31. To help them keep a home and to be close to them, I have been thinking about this a lot lately...
Just a thought.
Terrific blog!
