"Are we prepared to promote conditions in which the living contact with God can be reestablished? For our lives today have become godless to the point of complete vacuity. God is no longer with us in the conscious sense of the word. He is denied, ignored, excluded from every claim to have a part in our daily life." - Alfred Delp, S.J.

The Secret Audience With Pope Francis: Why did the Vatican sit on this story until now?

Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office, issued a final clarification on Pope Francis’ brief meeting, downplaying its significance.  It's well known that in the past, Pope Francis has been critical of American's fawning over pets.
Fr. Lombardi stated that along with Bo and Sunny, several dozen people were also invited by the Nunciature to greet the Holy Father before he departed for New York City. “Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness and availability,” he stated. “The only real audience granted by the Pope at the Nunciature was with one of his former students and his family.”
“The Pope did not enter into the details of the situation of the First Pets and his meeting with them should not be considered a form of support of pets in all of its particular and complex aspects.”
"I have no further comment on this,” Lombardi told journalists, cuddling his own black poodle named Jorgie. - ZaniNews

Vatican insists Pope did not know the dogs
would be presented in audience in advance
of the Assisi blessing of pets.

  1. I support this post in all of its particular and complex aspects.

Is it just me or did Lombardi find a polite way to say, "the pope was not intending for this meeting to be a political event, but a personal encounter between himself and someone in the cross hairs for exercising her freedom of conscience. Since she made it public, well...like I said, it wasn't supposed to be political so that's on her."

  3. Those dogs are fabulous looking. They have great hair too. <3

  4. The Vatican does not fully comprehend the separation of Church and State in the US Constitution. It is a doctrine much more then mere religious liberty. It creates "a wall" between Church and State that means they are separate entirely. I still maintain if Kim Davis cannot abide by the law and issue same sex marriage certificates she must resign or be impeached. The Vatican does not get it. Civil and Sacramental marriage are very different. Now if government was to force a priest, minister or rabbi to perform a sacramental same sex marriage and he or she went to jail instead we then have a true conscious objection. The Vatican made a big mistake mixing up this issue and lost a great deal of the good will that preceded it.

    1. Separation of Church and State isn't in the Constitution. It's a phrase from a letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists and is being used in a misleading way; he wrote to assure them that the state wouldn't interfere in their practice of religion. What we have here is the opposite; a government complicit in attempting to minimize the meaning of religious freedom and abrogate the First Amendment.

The First Amendment calls for Freedom of Religion, full stop; the Establishment Clause is supposed to prevent government from favoring a particular religion such as its current favoritism of Islam or establishing a state religion such as Global Warming or Secularism.

Kim Davis asked only that her name be removed from the form so that other clerks could sign it and it wouldn't give the appearance of her complicity in the redefinition of marriage. That was an easy fix but the judge didn't like it - they're supposed to go with the simple fix, by law, rather than the big showcase of arresting someone.

The only interest the state has in marriage is to protect children; gay couples are inherently unable to have children but must deprive them of one natural parent if they're manufactured for the couple's benefit.

  5. I guess that means the gay couple was among the bunch invited to see him off.

  6. Nan that was a personal reunion. Pope Francis taught one in high school in Argentina in the 1960's. He considers them personal friends. Not an endorsement at all. Different situation from Kim Davis entirely.

    1. That's what I read too. Will be interesting to see who reads it differently. ;p

    2. You have to stop anticipating my posts.
