You are being manipulated.

Remember Thom?*

Social media.

Media.  Decades of television, radio, cinema and print has formed our culture.  We know that.  Or at least we should.

Media influences how we think about the Pope.  Catholic social media leads the way in 'resisting him to his face'.  We know that.  Or at least we should.

Remember the recent Facebook experiment?

Remember Jeffrey from Roving Medievalist?

There is now Pentagon research which indicates social media can be used to control people like robots...

Did you know?
The Department of Defense has spent millions of dollars in recent years on research aimed at harnessing the power of social media to direct human behavior on a large scale.

Did you know?
[S]maller groups of influential individuals can be used to sway much larger populations, and social media can be manipulated to leverage their influence even further. - Read more.

Yeah huh!  So don't ask how gay marriage has achieved overwhelming approval across the United States.  Don't ask why girls dress like sluts and boys look like girls and transgendered models grace the covers of fashion magazines.

Still confused my little lab rats?

You're being manipulated.

Remember Belinda?

  1. What ever happened to Thom? He hasn't been around in a coons age (is that racist??)

I have Edward Bernays (1891 − 1995) book "Propaganda" on hold at the library. He's the father of modern advertising and has worked with the government on different projects.

You can read up on him:

    1. Thom disappeared from his town - left his job and is doing something undercover.

I heard from Tom in Vegas a bit ago - then zap - dead silence.

  2. We are always being manipulate by someone or something. And were even before the days of social media. One could even look at the design and art of medieval churches as being a form of manipulation. So, the real question, by whom do you choose to be manipulated, and is it for good, or for evil?

  3. Tom in Vegas is pretty active on Facebook. I know you don't "do" Facebook. Wise decision.

    1. He's so modern. I used to be on Facebook, then I quit. Too invasive.

  4. I was searching online for Thom's blog (glad he's ok, btw) and came across a 2009 article from the NC Reporter touting Thom and other progressive voices in the blogosphere. Included in the short list of those who favor a "post-Vatican II catholicism" was Deacon Greg. That SO made my day. I'm going to send the link to every trad I know, and say, "Mmm Hmmm! See--we're not crazy--or manipulated!" LOL

    1. Really? Thom was noted by NCR? I think he used to hate me, then he got used to me. Deacon Greg was progressive? I don't abide by these sorts of labels. Nobody counts for anything unless they are on the Aleteia experts list: http://experts.aleteia.org/en/experts

      What?

  6. I'm still catching up.

Yes. New job. New city. New responsibilities. And I'm happy.

I can't believe I just got lumped in the Jeffrey.

    1. Congratulations then - I'm glad you are doing well.

As for lumping you in - I do what I must to get attention. ;)

      Big hug.
