(Or at least that YouCat doesn't cause more spiritual harm to these children). -The LCWR, through their week of silence has decided to heed the call of Christ to return to the vision and customs of their founders and participate in the New Evangelization and work for the salvation of souls. To show they are serious, they each put on the traditional habits of their communities.
Clark, I've never read it, so I don't know, but what is wrong with "YouCat" besides its lame-o attempt to be "hip" and "relevant"? Is it not similar in content to the CCC?
There are several issues, but my main concern with YouCat is that they are placing quotes from heretics, non-Cristians, non-Catholics and atheists in the margins of the book.
I agree that some of these men and women have a certain amount of wisdom to share with the world, but does it really have a place in the doctrinal content for our youth? The danger is that a certain relativism creeps in..."I can borrow a little from Mother Teresa and a little from Gandhi and a little from Voltaire and a little from the Wicca priestess at my Pilates studio." Where does it end?
No one takes these things seriously and then 40 years later we say, "Oh well, this generation got these ideas because back at the turn of the Century, they were giving out these distorted catechetical books at WYD conferences called YouCat."

I was referring to the lack of response to what I HOPED for, based on Terry's intuition that something big was going to happen this week. I notice an overall lack of Hope on most Catholic blogs, which I think stems ultimately from a smallness of Faith. Faith that our Creator can truly do anything, anytime He wills.
About 4 years ago I couldn't find a job. I was really in a horrible situation, but I kept hoping. Despite my persistence, I found nothing, but kept reminding God, if He willed, He could give me a job in an instant. One Sunday (not really a day for job hunting) I prayed Vespers with the intention that God send me a job right then and there, that He could just do it, if He willed. I left my apartment, not allowing myself to feel down and walked to get something to eat. I sat down at a table and a well dressed man rushed over and said, "I don't have time to talk right now, but are you looking for a job?" I said that I was. He handed me his card and said, "Be here at 9AM tomorrow." We shook hands and exchanged names. I showed up the next morning, interviewed and was hired on the spot. The job lasted for over 2 years and was an incredible experience. God is so good.
Is that photo a scene from Eraserhead? What a yucky and demoralizing movie--not to mention extremely weird, which was the appeal to us college students at the time. Esoterically packaged messages of anti-life and immorality back then, but the same ones that are clearly and unabashadly forced upon the college kids of today. God have mercy on them and show them His truth and light--as my daughter begins university this week! Maybe that's what your dream was about? World Youth Day coinciding with Colleges going back to school in the States? Oh, and Eraserhead was about a dream, or many dreams, if I remember correctly...
