I can't wait.
One call I answered by mistake was a woman sounding extremely desperate - that if Obama is reelected the country will collapse into Socialism. "Oh my gosh!" I said, "I heard that too! Thanks for calling." And I hung up. I screen most of the calls and somehow don't make it to the door in time for the political volunteers. One message left on my phone was for marriage - to protect it. I already know that. Even a local pastor stopped by - he wasn't Catholic - he left a card - which is how I found out he was a pastor.
I've also received emails asking me to make calls urging people to Vote Yes for the marriage amendment.
Interestingly enough, both sides of the marriage issue are calling each other out for lying and exaggerating. Both sides are getting desperate - if not contentious and contemptuous.
It will be over next Tuesday. Kind of. If the amendment passes, the repeal process will commence. If it fails, we will go through this again. No matter who wins the presidency - the winner will be disparaged for four more years.
Despite what happens, the country is divided. I doubt any kind of politics can fix that.
Yes, we are divided, and many pretend that it isn't a moral divide. But that's what it is and it's one of those Biblical predictions for the end times when the sheep will be separated from the goats. (I use the term "end times" as the time from the Resurrection until the last judgment, whether it's tomorrow or in ten thousand years. But if the next pope is named Peter....)

The winner will indeed be disparaged, but to some extent, so will we.
ReplyDeleteI hate politics. And anyone wanting to get into politics (including those who are already there) should be looked upon with grave suspicion.

DeleteI don't answer the phone even when I know who it is. I usually wait for a message. I don't really like phones. So the whole fascination with "I PHONES" etc eludes me......I was required to make phone calls at work a few months back day in and day out invading people's privacy with the "American Community Survey"...talk about a PURGATORY. I'd rather have scraped gum off the sidewalk at KMART to be honest.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I worked the phones was in grade school and we'd call people and ask if their refigerator was running and if it was they better catch it. Asking about gay marriage back then would have been considered an obscene phone call.

LOL UGH! I did phone work (customer service) at Dayton's loss prevention years ago....now that THAT was an experience. whole generations of thieves in one family. who knew? It was crazy people expecting their refund checks in the mail (do you know when I can expect my refund check? I was going to use it for my rent.....am I EVEN in the computer?! can I talk to someone there who can make decisions?!") needless to say that got old. We used to do that phone call thing with Prince Albert in a can.
