I love everything Spanish Colonial. Especially statues which need to be clothed.
There is a cool site which sells bultos - religious figures to be dressed. If you are crafty - you could make your own Madonna dressed in elegant 17th century royal splendor. The site is called Santos Cage Doll - you can get crowns, ex-votos, replacement hands and angel wings too.

DeleteMy abuelita has a bultos of Divino Niño who she made clothes for. When I was a little girl visiting I asked her why Nino was naked and she said she was mad at Him for not answering a prayer so took away all his pretty clothes.
ReplyDeleteKat - I love that. Old timers used to take the bambino statue away from St. Anthony and others until the saint answered their prayers.

DeleteAlthough the ideal is for Santos to be cage-free and organic, I usually just get the conventionally grown variety.
