To quote Bernie Taupin, "It's sad, so sad, it's a sad, sad situation. And it's getting more and more absurd."

  2. Actually, I have a feeling that boy doesn't have God in his life.

    1. People can do that - but I bet you knew that.

  4. I think it's perhaps an outward manifestation of interior chaos and nihilism. Also it might be a pathetic attempt to get attention. Look at me! I'm unique! I'm different! I'm not a part of your bourgeois values etc. This type of thing shall continue to increase.

    1. servus, I always say that what "art" has descended to is shock value. Basically, it's the boy who says the "F" word in class in 4th grade. THAT is what is "edgy" and "artistic" nowadays. Pushing the boundaries for the sake of pushing the boundaries.

You forgot your "Catholics in the Public Square" tag.

    Oh, wait . . .

  6. Speaking of self-esteem, it always makes me wonder about clerics and religious who deck out in the maximum possible gear afforded to their office. Yeah, I said it. ;)

    1. Gee, haven't heard that one before. You'd make a great seminary formator.

    2. Thom - where have you been? Missed you. I thought you'd yell at me about the bullying tag.

Anyway - I know what you mean.

    3. I've been around. :) Besides, the bullying tag applies for my example, too!

    It's self hate.

Many people believe that self mutilation is a sign of demonic possession--re: the demoniac living among the graves in the gospel who kept casting himself against the stones, hurting and cutting himself.

Lord, please deliver this poor man.
