Hillary Clinton: "Makeup Free Zone"

Kudos!

“I feel so relieved to be at the stage I'm at in my life right now, Jill, because if I want to wear my glasses, I'm wearing my glasses.”

“If I want to pull my hair back, I'm pulling my hair back,” Clinton, who’s known to sport scrunchies occasionally, added. “At some point it's just not something that deserves a whole lot of time and attention. If others want to worry about it, I'll let them do the worrying for a change.”  - Hillary Clinton
That said...

I think makeup looks good on many women - I love smokey eye shadow, or heavy eyeliner - on beautiful young women, that is.  Like Sophia Vergara or Kat.  I remember Janet Jackson's makeup from the "Scream" video - she looked really hot.

But old women, especially those who aren't all that attractive seem to me to look better without a lot of makeup.  Those who may retain some attractiveness - sans surgical/chemical intervention - should definitely go easy on the color, eye shadow, rouge and so on.  Nothing uglier than a woman with caked turquoise eye shadow crusting up her wrinkles, or brilliant crimson lipstick smeared across her lips and all over her martini glass - oh - and that shaky lip-liner outline doesn't scream "I'm so pretty" either.  The sunken-cheek-shadow-look isn't fooling anyone - especially when the cheek flab hides the jaw-line in your profile.**

I'll never understand why women over 40 do that stuff to themselves.

I honestly think natural is better for most women of a mature age.  Like I always tell women friends my age, "Hon, you just end up looking like a clown.  Even that touch of mascara ends up calling attention to the bags, crow's feet and bloodshot whites."

It's about time Hill!

  3. This "old" lady still wears makeup.

You're right in that as women age they should be more careful with application, using the proper products, and correct colors. The secret is to look better without looking like you have on makeup.
Unfortunately, most women don't know how to do that - not to mention failing eyesight. I always check my makeup outside before leaving the house and end up toning down something or another.

But, trust me - ol' Hill looks awful!

I'm over 40, don't wear make-up and have grey hair and glasses. That said -- I'm also not the US Secretary of State.

Hillary looks sloppy and ungroomed for someone in her position.

I don't have a dog in any political fight (I stopped voting over 15 years ago), but compare Hillary's appearance with that of Condoleeza Rice. Hell, even Madeline Albright looked more professional than she does.

    She's an embarrassment.

  5. I like the subtle look myself. Here in the south there is an emphasis on what the Germans would refer to as "uebergeschminkt" .....WAY too done up. looking like Mary Kay or Merle Norman saleswomen. There are people who never stopped wearing blue eye shadow after the 70s. Now they fit in again but theyre 35 years older.....I've never understood why people would dye their hair blue black when it's not their natural colour to begin with...it makes their features long and pointed. They end up looking so harsh. Like I said I like the subtle, natural, earthy look.

  7. Bless your heart. Whenever men comment naturalness and makeup I always laugh. It takes a ton of makeup to look "natural". Hilly has just given up.

  9. KIM------ I mean't that there are those who have been wearing blue eye shadow since at least 1975 and for them it never went out of style and now they're back in style. same as what we called "sausage roll" bangs with a curling iron they're back in now too. it's all a cycle.......so i'm not hatin' :)

DYMPHNA-------- I have known lots of women in my life who wore/wear little or no make up and I thought they were all looked naturally beautiful. My point is that more is not always better. I still think subtle is better than caked on.
