Piermario Morosini, RIP

Morosini, 25, collapsed of a heart attack and later died at Pescara's Civile Santo Spirito hospital.  Story here.

I wonder if he was related to the Blessed Pierina Morosini, martyr for purity?  She was beaten to death at the age of 26 by her attacker.  Her story here.

Both were from Bergamo-Albino area of Italy.   Perhaps it's a common name there?

So young.  May he rest in peace.

Sudden deaths such as these remind us we need to remain in the state of grace, for we know not the day nor the hour when we will be taken.

  1. I agree. I was a bit taken back to see that someone as young as 25 actually died from a heart attack. That's very scary.

  2. @apostle.com: "heart attack" as used by the lay public and sometimes journalists, is a very imprecise term.

Sudden cardiac death in healthy athletes can be caused by a variety of congentital/electrical/chemical cardic events auch as-- a sudden cardiac ventricular fibrillation, long Q-T syndrome, sick sinus syndrome, a sudden aortic dissection and the like.

In cases like these, the presenting symptom is, indeed, sudden death.

This is very different from what most people call "heart attacks" -- blocked coronary arteries.

It's unlikely this young man died from a blocked cardiac artery.
