See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. - James 5:7

The St. John's retreat has been cancelled.

Rorate posted the announcement.

Dear Mr. X: Thank you for your message. After reviewing the content of the retreat, it is clear that the program is not consistent with the purpose and mission of the Abbey Guesthouse. Therefore, the retreat has been cancelled.

Fr. Bob Pierson OSB
Guestmaster
St. John’s Abbey Guesthouse
PO Box 2015
Collegeville, MN 56321-2015
I wasn't able to find a comment by Bob Pileggi, the man who would have been conducting the retreat.  For those not familiar with the controversial spiritual teacher, I've posted a note on Bob here:
Bob Pileggi:
Bob finds deep satisfaction in creating and facilitating space where couples, their families and friends can fully experience life’s most poignant and valuable moments. In addition to his work with Journeys of the Heart, he dedicates his life to working with people who seek to “experience the moment” through ceremony, yoga instruction, spiritual counseling, breath coaching and energy work. Bob offers individual sessions, workshops, and multi-day retreats to guide others toward a sense of unconditional acceptance, compassion, peace, joy, and gratitude for life. He is happy mixing spiritual, secular and/or cultural traditions to create ceremonies that are meaningful expressions of people’s lives. - Source
Photo: Bob from Easton Mountain Experiences Blog.  More information on Bob's retreats: Men Need Real Touch.  Pileggi appears to be connected to Easton Mountain in NY, although he is not listed there as being a staff member.  Thank God the monks at St. John's understand that these programs are not consistent with the purpose and mission of the Abbey.

  1. Hallelujia! By the way, the statement of "Bob" sounds like Larry wrote it, lol.

  2. At the risk of unleashing an unholy tumult... what's the problem with those?

  3. I don't see what's so wrong with those things - on the face of it - either. I don't see anything wrong with events aimed specifically at those with same-sex attractions, as long as faithfulness to church teaching is maintained.

    Except for the silly acronym - it DOES sound like a BLT with ... guacamole?

  5. HERE YOU GO:

    However, some Catholics are already protesting the speakers, according to a press release issued by Concerned Roman Catholics of America. Urging Catholics to join the group in its "dissent-fest," Kenneth M. Fisher, chairman of Concerned Roman Catholics of America warns, "We need to warn thousands of Catholics that they'll hear speakers who spread doubts about Church teachings on abortion, homosexuality, contraception, women's ordination and the Pope's authority."

    A priest who's said he's "not anti-choice," has publicly discussed his genitals, and has criticized the idea that truth is superior to dissent;

    A priest who says the Church needs "public models" of "healthy gay priests for Catholics to reflect on," to counter "the stereotype of the gay priest as child abuser;"

    A professor who subtly undermines Church teachings on papal authority, sodomy, contraception and women's ordination;

    A nun who's taught that "ordinary genital self-touch can be very important" for children; and

    A laicized priest who wants not only women priests but also women bishops.

  6. Haha Maria :)

    I never said I was all for it - I said that such a congress with such discussions as you listed earlier wouldn't necessarily be bad on it's face.

    I didn't say it was *likely* they wouldn't be dissenting.

  7. Btw, if that guy is naked all the time, why is he so pasty white?

  8. Oh, I see the problem: they're Jesuits. I forgot about your aversion. ;)

  9. I have an aversion for the corruption of the teachings of the Church. I follow their goings on with a close eye.

  10. All I can say is be glad that you aren't a gay Catholic, and you don't have to worry about such things.

    'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.'

  11. Oh, but, mon frere, I am a past master of other sins. You don't want to know the sin of my past life. Ever.

  12. Thom, are you saying that only those who are sexually attracted to members of the same sex have a right to defend church teachings when they are attacked?

  13. I'll be quiet now, lol ;) Nite nite.
