Abba Poemen said: 'Teach your heart to follow what your tongue is saying to others.' He also said, 'Men try to appear excellent in preaching but they are less excellent in practising what they preach.' ***

Oh look! I'm just like Gramick! I'm in a habit.
I found all my old Picassa albums online, and came across this. It is a photo of me as a novice in a monastery.

When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf Heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featur'd like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least:
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee,--and then my state
(Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth) sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings'. - Sonnet 29
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you and for those who do not, especially the enemies of the Church and those recommended to you.
Holy Name of Jesus
Arise O Lord and let your enemies be scattered, and let those that hate you flee before you!"
Welcome to the original Abbey-Roads!

I'm against it!
Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
Show us your face and we shall be saved. "Each soul is the object of My special love. That is why I am so grateful to those who are resourceful and bringing back sinners to Me. Keep this in mind then. I gave My life for them in the most atrocious torture, for these poor beloved ones. A humble repentance, and they are already on My heart. So speak gently to them. Speak with tenderness. A brusque remark could drive them farther away." - He and I
Hi, which order monastic do you belong?
ReplyDeletePepe - I am not a monk. At the time of the photo I was in a Trappist monastery.
ReplyDeleteDid you learn anything while you were there?
ReplyDelete*
Pablo,
ReplyDeleteI'm Terry learned lots of things while he was there. I'm sure he learned patience is a virtue.
Terry,
You look happy in the picture.
Thanks! I was happy then.
ReplyDeleteWhere's your old photo when you were once a Discalced Carmelite? I bet you already shaved your beard now. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWere you Br. Chris?
ReplyDeleteAwww ... the other baby-faced Nelson. :)
ReplyDeleteJohn - yes - Christian was my name.
ReplyDeleteHow do I know this is really you?
ReplyDeleteChar - you just have to take my word for it. It is me though.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I see no hint of mischief in that face, just a sweet expression. Are you sure that's you?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that time was a joyful one for you, but you certainly do look happy.
