Every time I try to be fair and think positively - a story like this comes along:
So. That is going too far - in my opinion. Other passengers do not have to be subjected to that - same sex on same sex, or opposite sex on opposite sex. Get a room.A lesbian actress who starred in "The L-Word" said she kissed a girl -- and got escorted off of a Southwest Airlines flight on Monday for doing it.
Leisha Hailey took to Twitter to call for a boycott of the carrier after a flight attendant told them other passengers had complained after witnessing the affection.
Her first tweet said: "I have been discriminated against." She later added, "Since when is showing affection to someone you love illegal?"
Southwest Airlines Co. responded on its website that Hailey was approached "based solely on behavior and not gender." The airline's four-sentence response said passengers were characterizing the behavior as excessive.
A discussion followed on the flight, and the airline said it "escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground." - Source

So, then, a story like this comes along about bad parenting.

The lesbian parents of an 11-year-old boy who is undergoing the process of becoming a girl last night defended the decision, claiming it was better for a child to have a sex change when young.

So anyway. Indeed there are heterosexual married couples who have decided to raise genderless kids or who have opted for hormone therapy for their kids who think they are the opposite sex - they are just as bad. Perhaps there are Therian parents who will let their kids be a cat if they think they are a cat - they are nuts too. Bad parents are all around us - I know - I grew up with two. People - you are abusing your kids.
Some, in their desire for children do so 'upsetting and troubling the whole world in their longing for them. For they do not know whether the children will be good and serve God, or whether the expected happiness will be rather sorrow, or the rest and comfort, trial and grief, or the honor, dishonor. Is it just me or does that quote by St John of the Cross seem to indicate that it is vain to want to have children? Or is he just trying to point out the vanity of those who want children to accessorize their own lives?
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm so pessimistic - I find that the saints have little positive to say about marriage and family life.
In any event, those stories should surprise no one. And it will get worse, too. I'm sorry if I offend anyone who is SSA, but while there may be bad heterosexual parents, very many of them, even, same-sex "parenting" is of it's very nature abusive to children.
Hi merc - he meant it the second way - for those who want kids to accessorize their lives.

ReplyDeleteYou know, Terry, there was something I've been neglecting to tell you. Remember that I once mentioned that my youngest brother's best friend was adopted by "two daddies"? Well, this best friend has a younger brother of his own (also adopted) who seems to be following in their daddies' footsteps.
When I learned that, my first thought was, "How do gay parents feel when their children become gay, too? Won't they feel sad that they won't get grandchildren?"
Then the answer hit me. =/
Anyway, the Tommy/Tammy fiasco is kind of like that, with an even worse answer to the same questions.
Talk about giving adoption a bad name.

ReplyDeleteI bet all these Catholics would also be appalled at the sight of say a 40+ man intimately caressing a 16-year old at a swimming pool (something I witnessed in Europe), but people who are with it know that true love has no bounds and cannot be censored, right?
I wonder why people for all of human existence have been so much stupider than people in the modern decadent west of the past 40 years or so. Clearly, we are superior. Yep, that future sure us lookin' bright ...

ReplyDeleteAnyone, gay or straight, who doesn't have the good manners to realize that overtly intimate PDAs are inappropriate while in a small, cramped, environment are just trash through and through. Has nothing to do with gay/straight and everything to do with upbringing. Shame on their parents. Good for Southwest (and good for them re: the Greenday guy and the hootchie-mamma dressed girl, both of whom were straight). And good for Virgin America for making Kevin Smith buy two tickets to accomadate his double-wide behind. But I digress.
ReplyDeleteThe pageant mamma who claimed she gave her very young daughter botox had CPS on her butt faster than you can say pedophile's-dream-date (and rightfully so). These parents surgically reconstruct their male child into a girl child, and it's totally cool.
We are livin' in some seriously messed up times. Seriously.
Sorry for rambling, but I can't help but wonder where this all leads -- if an eight year old child is legally able to "decide" he or she should be surgically reconstructed into the opposite sex, I suspect it won't be long before an eight year old child is legally able to "decide" he or she wants to have a sexual relationship with an adult.
Sara, there are people seriously pushing that in Europe today, and there are many in the gay movement here who want that as well. I'm not saying all gays do. But there are certainly those who believe it can "beneficial" for a pubescent boy to "learn from" an older man.

You can change as many laws as you want in the name of justice to favor same-sex marriage and pro-gay advocates can even become the majority; it still won't make it right. Truth is Truth and laws can be unjust.

ReplyDeleteSupreme Court Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg, before she was confirmed, had publicly stated that she believes the state should recognize that children 12 years of age are able to consent to sexual relations with an adult; and also asserted that the purpose of abortion was to eliminate undesirables. What is really rotten is that many of the creeps in the White House and Senate/Senate staffs knew of this, and all of them were responsible to know, and they nevertheless voted her in, I believe unanimously, pretending that these opinions of hers were neither relevant nor disqualifying...in short...they were agnostic wrt basic human decency.
Chris - it's coming. It's been a part of the political gay movement since it emerged in the 60s. It was jettisoned in the 70s and 80s when the movement was trying to get a "respectable" image.
ReplyDeleteThis is not to say that this is what individual gays may want. But the norm for homosexuality through the ages has almost always been "younger boy - older man", someone to show the ropes, so to speak.
This is exactly what advocates of the whole thing always say, and many have said all along.

ReplyDeleteI was watching the "Prohibition" series on PBS this week and was pretty shocked when I learned that the age of sexual consent in this country pre-prohibition used to be 10, so it's not necessarily a new thing. It is shocking, though, that an educated woman would think it is appropriate in this day and age to advocate for lowering the age of sexual consent. Prohibition of alcohol may have been a really bad idea, but it grew out of a movement begun by intelligent, educated women who wanted to protect children from the baser instincts of human nature.

ReplyDeleteI am not shocked that educated people advance evil ideology , because education is used to advance the ideology. Thme problem is what Fr. Robert Barron is pointing to @ Word-on-Fire: for the first time since in the history of what was for most of 2 millenia a Christian civilization, it appears that a plurality, or majority of the people of this generation is ascending into adulthood with a completely secular, a-religious (and/or anti-religious) value system. Justice RBG is simply a supremely educated technocrat, with no moral compass.
Indeed, "re-education" into the subtly evil ideology of secular civics is exactly what is happening in many self-proclaimed "Catholic" and "Christian" colleges and universities right now. This is the intersection of those who lament "dumbed-down" Catholicism (e.g, Fr. Barron of Word-on-Fire) and those who attack it (e.g., Michael Voris, Card. Newman Society, etc). While I venture to say that the lamenters are reluctant to be joined with Voris, CNS et al, they are all, in fact, responding to the very same problem. They probably need to merge...
