When Bishops Go Wrong: Mexican Bishop and the San Elredo Community

This is what happens.

Saltillo, Mexico, Jun 23, 2011 / 05:48 pm (CNA).- The San Elredo Community, which is backed by Bishop Raul Vera of Saltillo, Mexico, plans to request that civil unions between same-sex couples from now on be referred to as “marriage.”
.
Bishop Raul Vera Lopez of the Diocese of Saltillo has repeatedly expressed support for same-sex unions.

.
In March of this year, Bishop Vera Lopez published a statement on the diocesan website expressing support for the “sexual, family and religious diversity forum.” The event was aimed at “eradicating what some sectors of the Church believe about homosexuality” — especially the belief “that homosexual acts are contrary to God.” - CNA
.
So some bishops aren't faithful to Catholic teaching?
.
It is one thing to welcome persons with same sex attraction, and to invite them to full communion with the Church in accord with Catholic Church teaching on sexuality, sin and conversion from sin, but it is quite another to deceive them and affirm such persons in the mistaken notion that homosexual acts are not sinful but good.

  1. Trust me, this isn't what Boston is doing. I'm a seminarian studying for the Archdiocese, and I have met Cardinal Sean many times. His Eminence is totally obedient to Church teaching. There is no way that he's trying to promote gay marriage in this case.

  3. Daniel - many thanks for your comment - I like to think the Cardinal is doing a fine job.

  4. Daniel - I took the reference out - so I'm counting on you to help me discern the stuff coming out of Boston. I used to live there years ago so I know what people are like. ;)

  5. Oh yes, we Bostonians are indeed a crazy bunch. Still, with Cardinal Sean I think you can simply take most of what he says at face value. He's not a complex man. He's very much still just a simple friar. It just so happens that he's also in charge of an Archdiocese. If he says he's not allowing a gay pride Mass, he's not allowing a gay pride Mass.

  6. Thanks again Daniel - that is my take on the Cardinal as well.

  7. Daniel: Are you aware of the history of St. Cecelia's and its conncetion w/ The Jesuit Urban Center? If not, you might want to read up on it. It was the best place to find a "gay mate" in Boston. You are probably too roung to know the history. It is NOT pretty.

  8. I am quite aware of it. I'd like to point out that the Jesuit Urban Center has been shut down. This is not the same place. I'd also like to point out that I know my bishop. I'm one of his seminarians. He keeps a good relationship with us, and in my times with him it's clear that he supports Church teaching. I trust in this orthodox bishop's judgment.

  9. Daniel: The populace merely migrated from the JUC to St. Cecelia's.

  10. I am well aware. That doesn't change what I know about the Cardinal.
