  4. Christ wept at the tomb of Lazarus.

Lazarus was in the tomb for several days and was decomposing fast.

Christ wept because man chooses sin.

Lazarus is the culmination of examples of sin; no matter how dead we are in mortal sin, when Christ forgives those sins, we arise renewed, and fortified for extending the Kingdom of Christ as Lazarus did afterward.

    This is a good picture.

    Thank you, Mr. Nelson.

  5. I guess he's holding his nose because Laz had been dead for four days and everyone expected it to really stink.

John's Gospel is always filled with great insights. He makes a point of mentioning the four days in the tomb as a point of fact. This would be important because the ancients believed that the spirit of the dead person stayed near the body for three days and the body could be brought back to life. ON the fourth day the spirit left and went to the abode of the dead.
this truly was a miracle of the greatest significance, Lazarus comes from the tomb wearing his burial clothes, because he would need them again.
Jesus left his in the tomb on Easter Sunday because he would never need them again.

  7. Thanks Father - The readings are so intense these few weeks of Lent - the Sunday Gospels so rich.

I asked for this Gospel at the funeral of my brother - it is very meaningful to me.
