Sorry, but the top photo are simply Dominican Laity who have received their Dominican scapular. Not exactly ODD. They only wear it outside their clothing at meetings or the day they received the scapular.
I'm sure if you wear the brown scapular you don't consider it odd.
When I was in the Air Force our dress blue skirts were like that--1 inch above to 1 inch below the kneecap..
In a REAL mini you can't sit down without causing scandal... :) that's why pantihose was invented :)
In a previous life I also had a candy striper uniform that was like that....add a red and white striped smock... and the sister nurses that worked in my hospital had uniforms like that too. Although they wore white nurses shoes..their veils were shoulder length like this one... I wonder if she is a sister nurse??
the one gang appear to be Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart. Their weird habit was based on the traditional garb for widows ("widow's weeds") which also surrounded the face in a heart-shaped frame.
Thses habits reflected a time and culture that they were founded in. Hence the "widows weeds" w and such. but the lay doomican scapular seems a little to long then normal. and the "habits of the hearlds of the gospel seem down right silly.

Three of my wife's nephews and a niece (all siblings)are part of the Heralds of the Gospel, Brazil. The guys with the sword cross. Cecilia is currently in Brazil visiting the Heralds of the Gospel at their seats in Sao Paulo: Tabor, Lumen Prophetae, and Monte Carmelo.
