Cat...

.
My very best friend is dying...
.
"Never love a wild thing.... He was always lugging home wild things. A hawk with a hurt wing. One time it was a full-grown bobcat with a broken leg. But you can't give your heart to a wild thing: the more you do, the stronger they get. Until they're strong enough to run into the woods. Or fly into a tree. Then a taller tree. Then the sky. That's how you'll end up.... If you let yourself love a wild thing. You'll end up looking at the sky." ~Truman Capote, Breakfast at Tiffany's, 1958, spoken by the character Holly Golightly

  4. I'm so sorry Terry. I'm assuming it's Celine; from what you shared awhile back. I can relate to what you are going through; we lost the cat we had for 16 years about 4 years ago. We got 2 "bonus years"; she recovered from an illness when she was 14 that was supposed to be fatal, so I am thankful for that.
I love that Savannah cat in the film. One of our cats now is named Savannah, but she's just an alley cat. No, we didn't learn our lesson the first time, should have listened to Holly Golightly (or maybe not).
I'll pray for you and Celine, that her passing will be peaceful. I know it hurts so badly to lose a faithful friend.

  8. Thanks everyone - very much. It is Xena-Celine. She's been into the Dr. twice so far this week - a rapidly accelerating something happened - most likely a stroke. She's comfortable - although incontinent and has problems walking. If she does not die in her sleep she will have to return to the Dr. for the last time tomorrow. I'm asking the saints and our Lady to ask the Lord to "take back his breath" during the night.

If not, she will have to get a lift at the Doctor's sometime tomorrow.

Mrs. Rabbitowitz explained the death of animals to me a long time ago - so I'm doing just fine. Thanks for your concern and prayers.

  9. Mr. Terry: My love and prayers.
It's so darned hard to lose someone (a pet) who has been so devoted, so loving and so attentive...
I have cried over the loss of our dogs here, even if they were so obnoxious, nasty and just plain naughty...
The beagle we had to "put down", who actually bit me several times, I cried over,....and then had to hear "First Confessions" of a bunch of second graders...talk about having to "bite the bullet"...anyway...You're in my heart and prayers, dearest.

Very sorry to hear about your Xena-Celine. I'm not a cat person, but I understand because I am owned by a house full of dogs, and lost one earlier this year. It's never easy. (Just got released again from the hospital myself, having suffered a major seizure. I thought it was death coming, and I have to tell you, it was as unpleasant and painful an experience as I can imagine. I'm not going quietly now. I'm on the warpath!)

Me permito usar el español para decirte sus versos más conocidos.

  17. My hear goes out to you, my friend. I'm all to familiar with this excruciating moment. I've posted this one my blog before, and amazingly, it does remind me that it's best to be brokenhearted than safe. Cliche but true:

"There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless -it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell."~From the book The Four Loves by C.S.Lewis

  19. Mr. Terry: I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Xena-Celine...believe me...
May our Lord, our Lady and good Saint Joseph comfort you...I do know how much the passing of a "good friend" can be so very difficult...I had to assent to putting our "Josie" a fourteenyearold shelty/mix down when she was in renal failure...I cried so hard...she was such a good girl...so absolutely sensitive to the hurt of others, such a a good girl...in all ways.
I understand, my friend, my brother.
I am so sorry for your loss.

  20. Terry, I'm so very sorry. I just lost my cat, Sylvester, as well, so I have an inkling what you're going through...

Prayers for you in your time of loss.

  21. Mr. Terry: I'm a "little person" and "simple person" even if I happen to be a religious and a priest (how did THAT happen??)...
and, maybe to the gasp of the devout, I think our pets do accompany us into the "afterlife"...I spent a childhood devoid of the love and care I should have received from adults...my kitties and doggies were my comfort (even baby piggies)...And throughout my life my dogs, cats and whatever have loved me unconditionally..it's not to say that human love or divine love is not important...but the animal world did LOVE ME...I'm so grateful for that...there are pictures of me holding my Kitty as a three year old...she loved me even if I was very naughty to her...she loved me.
And I believe that counts in the Kingdom of God where all creation will be renewed in Him. Amen.

  23. Mr. Terry;
    FYI:http://spiritdaily.com/intercessorstext.htm
I hope to God this does not bode badly for the "new communities"...WTH has been going on there??
This is very disturbing to me...unless there were some very bad things going on.

  25. Terry - the reflection on Xena is one of the most beautiful poignant things I have ever read.

I'm sorry for your loss - you're a good steward of the gifts God has given you. That's why it hurts.

God bless you - I will pray for you.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on your latest post. Personally, I think Heaven would be a lonely place without our little friends with us...
