Thank you, Thom, for the info. Here in the tundra, we have a dog sled that is driven by two very temperamental dogs that maybe, just maybe might get us to church (oh, 40 yards or so from our house...). I'm not used to such amenities...usually have to DO EVERYTHING MYSELF (Sorry for shouting!!)...:<)!

Sare: Please do not take offense. Aren't you in the convent? Same w/ the rest of you clerics. I do not want to get anybody in trouble, but are you all permitted to laze about on the internet musing about clerics on motorcycles? (Please do not get me wrong. I am enjoying this more than you can possibly know). If so, I want to sign up.
You are far more talented. With photo editing programs, it just takes practice - locating the tools and figuring out how they work. Trial and error. Easier than painting, particularly when you are just combining elements from different images.
Father - they are two of my many favorite priests online... They are always entertaining - in fact, they could be in the cast of "Big Bang Theory" if they hadn't been ordained. (Yes - that is a compliment.)
(For the cloistered and the Bruderhof bound, "Big Bang Theory" is a popular CBS sit-com.)
I must be cloistered (because I know I'm not Bruderhof bound) because I have never heard of a show called "Big Bang Theory". Given the general state of our popular culture, I shudder to think what the name of the show implies...I suspect I haven't given up much by giving up TV.
Marie-- I am not cloistered, I'm not even a religious..I am a Secular ( or Lay, or 3rd Order), Discalced Carmelite. I am a lay person, have a real career, life, house, and job, as well having taken promises to live a life of Carmelite Spirituality, including promise of chastity, poverty, and obedience according to my state in life (which at this time is single).
And yes I do limit my time on Internet and blogs or yes it can fritter my time away...
Being a Secular is definitely not for everyone--We join our priests and religious brothers and sister in daily recitation of the Morning and Evening Prayer, spend a half hour a day in mental prayer, as well as additional time in Carmelite studies and apostate work (mine is making rosaries for the missions)..so my day is very structured..I do allow myself one hour of "recreation" per day be it TV, Internet, crafts, etc.
But as I said ona previous post--I love my life about wouldn't have it any other way..bit by bit I grow in holiness.
Sara: How wonderful. I ran into a friend from grad school several months ago, at a conference who is a 3rd order carmelite. I was not aware of the precise obligations. Impressive, Sara. Thank you.
Austringer: You are rightre blogging. And I am so glad. I was being a little tongue in cheek. I do just love chatting w/ our cleric friends...
To our Cleric pals: I think this is just a wonderful opportunity to have direct access to souls/minds able to answer some of my questions. Your presence is here is just marvelous. First order. Third order. And those of us out here in the valley. I am having a great time.
Yes Thom..I DID mean "apostolate"..I'm an engineer by trade not a writer :) However I can blame all my typos on my secretary :) Oh wait she has the day off today..I guess yo all have to suffer with my typing.. :)
I see my motorcycle as my contribution to energy conservation.. I ride it when the weather is nice and saves me TONS of gas money...especially when the price of gas was through the roof a couple of summers back....my bike gets close to 80 MPG..s when it was costing folks close to $100 to fill up their trucks I was filling up my bike for about $5..and that would last me about 2-3 weeks......I think I gassed up my car like twice all summer...
Maria: Sorry to scandalize you, but I am a terrible insomniac...I try to limit my posts to "regulated"times but, alas, I do infringe upon the "great silence" to do blog checks and posts...I will try to get better at keeping my regular horarium (and thank you for the fraternal correction...no, I'm serious...this is good for me). And Thom, just to let you know we are not "exotic" here; I was just being "nutz"...these dogs couldn't pull a sleigh if their lives depended on it...I was just being goofy...We have to trudge through the snow, sludge, ice, whatever...ourselves. No matter. Just wish I could be "transported" in a really super cool vehicle like this!!
