Going through the Christmas cards Christmas night, after everyone leaves...

Making a list and checking it twice.
.
People really do that you know.  If they sent you a card and you didn't reciprocate - you are so off their Christmas card list for next year.  I actually sent cards to the people I missed last year - the people who dropped me this year because I never sent a card last year.  I kind of did it just to confuse them.  ;)
.
FYI - that is so not what Christmas is all about, is it... you know - tit for tat stuff.

I think some people are card senders and others just aren't, and the former shouldn't take it personally when they don't get "tit for tat," as you say. (Guess which group I belong to!)

  2. The cards I like - it's the double sided single-spaced "look at how wonderful our lives are!" compendiums that some people include with their cards that I abhor.

  3. Enbretheliel - I know your type - lol - some years I send them out, some years I don't - which is how I discovered this little known fact. (I hardly get any cards, and I am not offended.)

Larry - I know those cards too - but I also dislike 'photo-of-the-family cards without any card - just the unmounted photo dropped in a business envelope without a signature or any message whatsoever. I got two such this year - from former co-workers and all I could think of is if my kids were that ugly, I would never photograph them, much less send the evidence to others. (That wasn't nice, was it.)

  4. Honestly, I'd rather not get cards. (I KNOW!)

  5. I have not sent Christmas cards for several years (long story and it has not been intentional). I continue to get Christmas cards from a number of friends. I guess that means that they are not among the tit-for-tat crowd.

(I still have not gotten around to that priest post I promised to let you know about -- so I guess you can figure out in part why I am so tardy or absent with Christmas cards. Again, good intentions get railroaded by real life.)

This is the first year in my entire adult life that I did not send ANY cards--I just simply didn't get around to it. But now I'm starting to feel bad, because some sent some heart-felt written sentiments, oh, sigh, now they are all going to think that I don't love them anymore--even though I haven't seen them in twenty years, why do we send cards to people we knew twenty years ago anyway?--sheesh.

One guy I worked with for six years sends me a card every year--says the same thing, "we need to get together for Mexican food." So I write back, "that would be great--I'll call you sometime." Of course it hasn't happened in the last fifteen years--but it's still the same silly exchange every year.

Hey, it's still Christmas--maybe I could send some now, no, then they will know "they" were just an after-thought, and they will really be offended. Oh, brother--the "social" unwritten rules of human interactions.

Maybe I'll get lucky and next year they will ALL stop sending me cards :)

  7. Terry - I have to confess that we do the family photo cards...but my kids aren't that ugly. I think I make them look handsome by my mere presence.

Plus I always make sure Mrs LarryD orders the ones that say "Merry Christmas" and not anything else.
