I’m switching back to Blogger - this site is far too much trouble. Please visit Abbey-Roads and add it to your blogroll if you like what I write. I was going to wait until after Christmas - but I can’t even post on this site any longer. I try to publish what I write and lose half the text. I’m outta here… nothing works here! Truth be told, the administrator of stblogs.com was offended by that post - which I thoughtlessly wrote out of frustration because of the problems I was experiencing. He was especially insulted with my last line: "I own the banner here, as well as the content - so watch out." He took it as a legal threat - it wasn't.

The very sad thing about all of this is that I lost my work. That said, I realize it was my own fault. At least I learned a very important lesson, I do not own anything, so no one needs to watch out.
You might be able to find a lot of your old pages if you do a search on the web; often, old-data is not lost, just archived elsewhere. Such as here:

Years ago, when I worked in the college computer lab, we would warn people to periodically 'save' their work in case of any 'problems' with the printer. Oh my goodnes, nearly every weekend, someone would have worked hours and hours then try to print, the printer would jam, and then devastation! The work was lost. And it was awful.
I really enjoy your Abbey Roads One and Two. God Bless you and I hope you might just re-invent Abbey Roads 2 and put your "Greatest Hits" back on the Blogosphere!

ReplyDeleteWow, that's pretty severe to just dump all your work over one blog post--sheesh, glad I'm not a part of stblogs! But, the most important thing is your still here, and your blog was outstanding!
ReplyDeleteBut how many times or people go back and re-read old posts? We live for only one moment--the present moment--the past is gone, the future uncertain. So while it was a large, excellent body of work--it's gone--geeze--that's harsh!
That's kind of extreme, dumping your material without even giving you a "heads-up" to save it. Like Tara says, we do pretty much live in the moment. But sometimes it is useful to refer back past posts.

ReplyDeleteWhat a royal pain in the behind. I'm sorry for your trouble. The easiest way to get your work back is to Google it:
ReplyDeletePut in "Abbey-Roads2" along with whatever qualifier(s) you want, such as December or Infant. Google will throw a list up on the screen, hopefully with the particular information you're after included in the list.
In the reference you're checking, click on the word "Cached" to pull up an archived copy of the page. (If you click on the main heading of the reference, you'll just get "Registration has been disabled." from StBlogs.)
You'll be able to retrieve whatever you like--all of your work or selected parts of it. I don't know how long the Google archive pages stay out there, but they seem at least semi-permanent to me, so you've probably got plenty of time to fetch your stuff back.
I used Google to pull up the IOP 9-hour novena that you posted on the 23rd--for which posting I am grateful, by the way.
FYI, the "Comments" link from the archived pages just goes back to StBlogs, so while your main work is safe, the repartee belongs to the ether.
ReplyDeleteHA! The ether just coughed up the commentary! (Me again.) All the comments are out there, safe and sound. Once you know the title of an individual post, include the word "Responses" in the Google search. The cached page will show the original post along with all of its associated give-and-take.

ReplyDeleteRonnie's solution is even better than my own as this has all the comments! I have all the post titles in my google reader cache if you need them in order to put Ronnie's idea to work. I am glad I read this as I was about to email you today to ask if you wanted me to proceed with emailing all the posts to you.
ReplyDeleteI know a number of people, myself included, who tried St.Blogs and didn't like it. I know others who ran aground on poor support or when the owner kind of felt insulted or something. I also was never big on the forced G--gle text ads nor on the concept of trying to bring Catholic blogs under one ether roof.
And frankly, from a straight ahead copyright standpoint you did, do own all the content you created. It was yours. The perceived threat in the language
ReplyDeleteFinally, it makes me wonder if St.Blogs Admin reads everything post crosses his service's path or does he have some widget that captures certain words and phrases to draw them to his attention.
And I have seen people's blogs totally deleted when much less potentially threatening words than you used such as, "I am blogging here (link) now. Please visit me there."
